Mick – I’ve given up on McLeod’s Island – ‘reprinting’, I’m told, some time in ‘time future’. Here’s the Lively book I liked: also short stories which you said wasn’t your  fav. genre, but with a meta-fictive framework of “What if?” school of history (in this case, her personal history. Which has, as you  + TSE know, many cunning passages.)
